Italian giants set to move for surprising Manchester United star
According to the latest report, AS Roma have lined up a move for a Manchester United star as a cheaper alternative to their primary transfer target.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has some difficult decisions to make at Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.
The current Red Devils’ squad is in disarray and to put it in order will require an abundance of hard work.
United currently have several players out on loan whose futures are uncertain at Old Trafford.
These include the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo.
The trio are on hefty wages and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will need to find a way to offload them in order to be able to bring in his own players.
While it seemed like AS Roma were destined to make a move for Chris Smalling who has enjoyed stellar spell in the Serie A so far this season, it seems the Italian giants are being deterred by the United’s steep asking fee.
This is according to the Italian outlet Gazetta dello Sport via the Daily Star. However the sport website claims that even though Roma are on the brink of pulling out of a move for Chris Smalling, their alternative target is another Manchester United player.
The site reports that in the case United do not lower their asking price for Smalling, Roma will move to target Marcos Rojo instead.
The Argentine arrived at Old Trafford with high hopes almost six years ago. At the time he was regarded as a bright prospect and many saw him as the perfect ball playing centre half.
However, Rojo has struggled to adapt to the English game and has often been unreliable at the back.
When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived at the club, Marcos Rojo fell completely out of the reckoning and after making just three Premier League appearances this season, he has now been shipped out on loan to his boyhood club, Estudiantes, until the end of the season.
Despite Marcos Rojo’s decline, Gazetta dello Sport reports that Roma would be happy to make a move for the Argentine and bring him to the Italian capital on the cheap.
Would you be happy if United sold Marcos Rojo to AS Roma?
